Mona Lisa and environmental activist

The universal fame and reverence bring Mona Lisa only trouble. And now, this week, it’s all they’re talking about again.

The thing is, a cake was thrown at her. The masterpiece has long been protected by armored glass. Therefore, no damage was done to Gioconda. We wiped the glass with a cloth, and the exhibit continued to work as if nothing had happened.

A young environmental activist decided to take advantage of Mona Lisa’ s popularity. He certainly did a daring thing. But apparently he found no other way to express his protest. He disguised himself as a wheelchair-bound woman. And since there is a special passageway for this kind of visitor, close to the painting, he easily accomplished what he intended.

Naturally, he did not intend to spoil the work of art, he calculated everything. He even prepared a speech, which he shouted at the moment of detention: “Think about the Earth! There are people who are destroying the Earth. Think about it. Artists tell you: think about the Earth! All artists, think of the Earth. That’s why I did this. Think about the planet.”

Unlike the other attacks, the guy had good reason to get attention. No one has listened to or heard the defenders of nature and the environment for a long time. Their rallies go unnoticed, and altruistic attempts to clear the oceans of garbage and prevent the destruction of flora and fauna, inspire no one.

So the young ecologist decided to “treat” the cake to Gioconda. He was naturally arrested and will be tried. But he got a result, albeit a small one. All the world’s newspapers and news programs talked about the incident for days. His words attracted attention.

Ecological thinking

Ecological thinking should lead people to act consciously, not to spoil the environment, to integrate properly into the wonderful system of the biosphere. Ecology is the science of home. However, alas, the vast majority of earthlings have not yet realized that planet Earth is our common home.

We have been hearing the calls of environmentalists for decades, but since politicians determine our lives, nothing changes. Until attitudes toward this global problem change, they will not invest in something that does not pay political dividends today!

The way out is to educate society from below. But politicians will not voluntarily go for an integral education of society. It is easier to control the masses, zombified by television and other media.

Nature has given people everything they need for both sustenance and development. But it’s not enough for them. They siphon every last bit of it from nature. Not knowing the measure, unceremoniously intruding into its harmony, not even thinking about their own descendants. What will today’s generation leave to their children? What planet?

Poor Mona Lisa! As a result of irresponsibility, it too will perish, just like all the other masterpieces! Are we really going to let this happen? I’m sure that if Mona Lisa could speak, she would stand up for the young environmentalist.
