About Evil and Good. And about balance.

This morning I saw a young guy beaten in the subway for not wearing a mask. He walked into a crowded carriage. Everyone drove in silence, staring at their phones. Some wear a full-face mask, some have their nose sticking out, some cover only their chin with it. Several people looked at the boy disapprovingly, but no one said a word.

And at the next station, a tall man entered the carriage. And in a second (I didn’t even realize how it happened) the crowd erupted like a match. So – one! – and a couple of loud words from the tall man, “Put your mask on, freak!” – stirred up the whole crowd.

The people pounced on him with all their fury. Shouting, “Because of guys like you, we’ll all have to stay home again! – one of the men grabbed the guy by the scruff of the neck. After one brief moment, a serious scuffle ensued. The aggression and unconcealed hatred with which people shouted curses and pushed the intruder to the door was so strong that it seemed to me that a little more and there would be a lot of blood.

The guy was thrown onto the platform at the next stop in such a way that he could barely keep his feet. And then everyone was back on their phones, as if nothing had happened.

There are no right or wrong in this story. It has one simple fact in it – we are used to exterminating evil. If we see something bad in our life, we instinctively seek to erase it, to remove it. But it’s interesting: by removing evil, we awaken even more evil.

“Because of people like you, we’ll all have to stay home again!” – This phrase makes this simple truth very clear. In an attempt to weed out of our lives a person who may serve as the bearer of the “crown,” we provoke aggression, hatred and scuffles. If you follow the cause of any turmoil in the world, you can easily see there the process of how people, by eliminating evil, set in motion even greater problems.

And that’s okay. That’s how we were made. The only thing abnormal is that we go along with our own nature and do not even realize that we have the power and ability to rise above it and grow to a level where we ourselves will be able to control all the events in our lives.

How? It’s very simple. Balancing evil with good. I cannot destroy evil, but I am able to balance it with the opposite action. And the more evil is revealed, the more I can counterbalance it with good.

“The crown,” which we perceive as evil (and rightly so), shows us one simple fact: the more we actively try to eliminate it from our lives by seeking vaccines, quarantines, restrictions, etc., the more other problems are revealed to us – crisis, protests, riots, scuffles like these in the subway.

And all we have to do is balance this “crown.” With what?
From today’s story, it is obvious what it is – a good relationship between us.

In this world, everything is in balance. Which means that the more horrible the problems are revealed, the more effort we should make to create an even stronger bond between us on top of all this evil. And so it is every time – every new problem that unfolds we must learn to balance the good between us.

Think back to any family quarrel, and you’ll realize that where people make an effort to keep the relationship above all obstacles, they reveal a strength that can overcome all problems.
